Objective: To study the insulin resistance (IR) in adolescence and adulthood patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Methods: IR in 30 adolescence with PCOS (adolescence group) and 30 adulthood with PCOS (adulthood group) was evaluated by the ratio of fasting blood glucose to insulin, and homeostasis model assessment. Results and Conclusion: Adolescence group had lower blood glucose and higher insulin level at fasting and 1 hour, 2 hours and 3 hours after meal compared with adulthood group (P<0.05). The incidence rate of IR in adolescence group was 63%, the incidence rate of IR in adulthood group was 33%, there was significant difference in two groups (P<0.05). Higher IR incidence rate in adolescence PCOS patients suggests that IR should be detected in adolescence PCOS patients as soon as possible for diagnosis and treatment in time.
